The Charente area is a district renowned for its very special light at sunset, splendid Romanesque churches, ruined fortresses, dolmens and charming red-roofed farmhouses – set in the valley folds or locked between vineyards and deep woodland.
The proximity of Bordeaux, head of Aquitaine land, and the atlantic coasts are also attractive points for tourism.

Lovers of classical music will enjoy world class performers at the monthly concerts of the abbey of Bassac, at the Saintes music festival (in July), but also at Cognac’s Jazz Festival (also in July).
Sport fans will find all sorts of possibilities : the prestigious 18-hole brandies golf course (3 kms), or angling all around, canoeing, river cruising, tennis…During September the vintage car Circuit des Ramparts weekend in Angouleme is a popular annual event.

Gourmet palates will be tempted either by the Gastronomades , organized every year in Autumn in Angoulême or by the various restaurants in the area , particular about serving local products and Charente cuisine.

Cognac brandy amateurs will have the opportunity to visit the most famous businesses and appreciate the tradition of this luxury product or simply breathe in the heady scent of old oak hovering over the dark mysterious warehouses.
